Selecting the Perfect Ring Design

Now that you know how to choose the perfect diamond from Casey’s Diamond Buying Guide, you are 50% done!
In this post, I will guide you through what to expect and look out for when choosing your perfect ring design.

Step 1: - Try to understand her preference and character

If your lady is involved in the selection process, you may skip to step 2.
If you are on your own, please read on…

First, do try to understand and look out for the accessories she wears most often.
You can start with Watches, Pendants, Earrings, Nail art, etc. and try to recall if she has ever mentioned her preference or showed you any designs shared by another friend. This will greatly help and I will explain why.

I will only use a watch designs as examples, and we can gather some tell-tale signs of her preference as follow:

Now that you have roughly identified the general direction, lets proceed with step 2.

Step 2: - Making sure it fits

By fitting, what I mean is to have the band width, general design outlook and main diamond size to be in proportion and harmony.

While band width is only just 1 aspect, other points to consider are:
1. Height of main diamond
2. Number of prongs
3. Detailings & size of prongs
4. Fluidity in connection between crown & band
5. Main diamond shape

Step 3: - Reviewing your design

With the preferences in play, we will create 3D drawings which uses accurate measurements based on the main diamond selected and ring size estimated.

Upon receiving your 3D, you can always still change it and incorporate any ideas you have, making the design uniquely yours!

Now here you go, you have the basic  knowledge on how to select the perfect ring design!

The REVO machine

JANNPAUL is proud to introduce our new in-house wax machine, REVO.

The REVO machine allows us to carve a wax mold of your ring design, where we can fully customize rings for you and strictly monitor the progress of production.

The wax ring is an added feature, on top of our 3D render designs. Although the 3D render design provides a full digital view of your ring, you may also want to view it in its physical form. Often, we have clients who wonder, how their design would look on them. The REVO machine allows us to take "ring customization" to a whole new level. Now, after showing you a 3D render of your ring, we can carve a wax model of your ring, so that you can see and feel it, in it's physical form. And yes.. you can try it on too :)

The wax used is the same high-quality wax used by professional casting firms for its robustness which can be filed down and soldered. Most importantly, this wax is environmentally friendly; the wax does not deteriorate when stored and is non-toxic.

The wax construction process

1) The 3D design render of your ring is transferred to the REVO machine. The machine will have a blueprint of your design, and will formulate how it will carve each fine details of your design into the wax block.

2) It begins with cutting the outer layer of the wax, followed by the tapper cutter that will finish milling the design. Generally, the tapper cutter uses a horizontal and vertical needle to carve out ring's design. This allows it to carve the wax model with great precision. This milling process takes about 8 hours to complete.

3) Upon completion of the prongs and band, we will begin a detailed check of each separate mold part. The finishing touch of the wax ring is done by hand, where we would remove any excess wax and smooth out the mold.

4) Finally, the wax mold is ready for your viewing!

Welcome To JannPaul!

We started this blog to let our followers keep track and understand a little what goes behind the scenes at JP. As agreed with my team, we decided that I will be covering designs that i'm currently working on so readers can grab some ideas here and there for their up coming rings!

Basically, i run the custom design section in JP. If you have sat through an appointment with us and did a custom design, you have probably met me! Thank you for that honor, and it was a great pleasure.

In my blog you will be able to see how I plan designs for clients, the problems we face how we tackle it and interesting ideas that you never knew could be done on a ring. Most of the designs that we do are decided between the client and our team. More heads eventually result in a greater end result!
